La Geria: the vineyards and it's environment

We start our walk at a local winery in the heart of La Geria. Crossing the vineyards, where vines are cultivated in deep hollows dug into the volcanic ash and protected from the trade winds, we begin our ascent towards the central ridge. From the top, we enjoy one of the finest panoramic views of southern and central Lanzarote. The ancient Ajaches Mountains, the vineyards of La Geria, the volcanoes of Timanfaya National Park and the south-eastern coast, dotted with whitewashed houses, seem almost close enough to touch.
After taking in the spectacular views, we descend through the vineyards and discover the traditional cultivation methods that make La Geria so unique. The vines grow in volcanic ash and are sheltered from the wind by semicircular walls made of black basalt rock, creating a striking landscape of colours and contrasts. To round off the walk, we visit a local winery, where we invite you to taste one of Lanzarote’s typical wines.
